The Sleep Deprived

Yep. That was me this week. All of the above–except for the guy with his eyes closed. I had all of the “effects” by yesterday and I was desperate for some sleep.

When bed time came, I took 2 melatonin and 2 allergy pills. And it worked. I slept all night and it was wonderful. My morning went sort of like this:

4:40AM woke, ate, went to seminary
7:14 AM returned home, woke son for school and climbed back into bed fully dressed. It’s a raining day and perfect for sleeping.
8:04 AM woken from sleep by hubby’s phone. Didn’t know what it was, but found myself standing by the desk holding it and wondering how I got there. I didn’t answer, but crawled back into bed.
8:45 AM woken again from a deep sleep and weird dream when daughter yelled up the stairs that she was ready to leave for school.

Weird dream–I was with lots of my friends sitting in a circle talking about pets. We currently don’t have any, but they all had lots. Including a white and black spotted pot belly pig. Then they disappeared and only one couple was left, and we were sitting out in their front yard.

The wife laughed and said her whole family had worms that they caught from their dogs. “Oh, look, there are some now. Don’t touch it or you’ll get them too.”

I look down and my hand in the grass is next to a pile of dog poo with wiggly worms. After freaking out and saying I needed to get my shoes on (because I’m a true southern country girl who rarely wears shoes) my hubby went to get them for me. As he walks back into the room (we are magically inside again), I notice a skunk walking down the hill through the front window. I comment on it.

Hubby laughs, opens the door, and throws my shoes at it! There is also a dog out there chasing it with a Star Wars blanket tied around its neck.

I woke up mad at hubby for throwing my shoes at the skunk.

My big plans for today?

  • Finish the costumes I’ve been sewing for tomorrows play.
  • Cook my contribution to a huge dinner tonight at church.
  • Take a nap.

What are your plans?
Note: I have no idea why I wasn’t sleeping.

  1. Awww, I feel for you!My hubby was away for a few days, which is always a chance for me to stay up super-late. Last night I was up until 3 am. Fun, but I pay for it the next day. And my college students sometimes have real trouble staying awake in class after a 6-hour drawing class!

  4. Plans for the day, 2 critiques for crit group, review of review for volunteer organization, write, clean, work-out, sleep. Unfortunately, I've already taken one nap today. I'm off melatonin until baby comes, so I can't remember the last time I slept through the night which translates to my daytime sluggishness and lack of productivity.

  5. I love sleep. I hate getting up in the morning to head into work.

  6. I'm convinced I just have two or three nights a month where I don't sleep.Writing, writing today and meeting a friend for lunch 🙂

Wow, are you sure you didn't eat something a little weird to help trigger that rather unique dream :-)???Plans for myself include doing some sort of surprise thing with my girlfriends this weekend. I wish I knew what it was but they just grin and won't tell me squat. And revising. Got a helpful crit back from Jade Hart and will be updating my first two chapters with her wonderful suggestions.

  9. Ew! You woke up at 4:40. I would seriously hate that. I only get around six and a half hours of sleep a night, that is, if I go to bed at midnight instead of later. There are times I am so thankful for my Agriculture class and the fact that we never do anything. The table is a comfortable pillow…

  10. yeah, 4:40AM is like hellishly early in my book. Bad enough getting up at 6AM. Hope you get some good sleep!

  11. I get this way sometimes too and my cure is to just pretend like I'm sick and take a couple days off in bed. With me, it's my nervous system that gets off for some reason. Glad you're back to normal!

  12. I've been so exhausted this week as well. I hope you're getting some sleep now.My dreams are always bizarre. I've stopped trying to figure them out.

  13. We haven't been sleeping in our house either. Sick kids, sick parents, and a child with a crazy sleep schedule have just really added up. I need to get a big, bad nap myself!

  14. May be you wearing Beats by Dr Dre headphones to listen to a song would be a little bit better in the morning!
