I Need Another Story…

Ok, I admit it. I think I picked the wrong project for Nano this year. What should be an easy world to fall into has let me down. All I can think about is a different story. The one I started during the summer and then set aside to prepare and write this month.

This morning this song was playing on the radio–One Republic “Secrets”

Do you think it’s too late to jump ship and continue the other book. I know Nano is supposed to be 50K of a new novel, but no one’s going to cut me a check at the end of the month for following the rules. And I keep saying make Nano work for you.

Yesterday I drove around in my van all day and wrote 0 words. So I’m still under the 4000 mark. It’s not like I’m tossing 8-10K words away.

*sigh* It’s going to be tough this year. I’m feeling the faerie story and I want to dig into revisions on Sendek. For some reason I can’t let that one alone yet.

Somebody kick me.

Thanks.

  1. Don't fret it. I'm at a little over 3,000 since I started on Tuesday, but that's okay. It's 3,000 usable words. For me, NaNo is about butt-in-chair, so I write every night instead of procrastinate. I'm not looking to win, and I won't, but I will be closer to finishing a book, and that's all that matters. Progress.

  2. be a rebel like me and lots of other people and just work on what you want, new novel or novel in progress. i'm using nano to finish up a novel.

  3. If the other story is what you want to do, then do it! NaNo is a personal experience–no one's going to demand anything from you. I went through 4 different changes, thankfully before the month started, so I understand. 🙂

  4. Thanks guys. I'm going to give the current idea a few more days. I think the problem is that I need to write both books, but for different reasons. The current one continues Talia and Landry's story, and I'm hoping that by getting book two finished, my revisions for the first book will take things deeper into the story. I have a sneaky suspicion I'm still just scraping the surface of what it COULD be. :DI think Nano should be in March. Nothing happens in March. Next year I'm rebelling and doing Nano in March.

  5. If you feel a calling for the other work go for it, but if you think it’s more like a stubborn writing thing stick with you current WIP just a bit longer.

  6. You should never force yourself to write something that doesn't work for you. If a new project is calling, NaNo be damned.

  7. No advice here, really. Just saying I hear ya and hope you find your creative groove. Have a great weekend!

  8. Switch it you're not into it! Although I totally feel you. I'm running out of steam too but that's just because I have no plot. However, I think people can tell when you're writing something you really want to and connect with and when you're not so go with what enthralls you.:D

  9. CORRECTION. I mean to say: Switch if you're not into it.Ooops.*HUGS*

  10. *nudge* (wouldn't kick you!)I think it's perfectly okay to shift to another story 🙂 You should write what you feel, not something you'd resent in the end!

  11. LOL, I'll give it Saturday and if I don't feel excited about it, I'm switching. At this point I don't even care about the word count goal. Shhhh! Don't tell my region. I'll do my best to still set an example. But I know I'm not going to reach the word count if I don't fall in love with the story. I'm so glad you guys are so helpful and not afraid to share your opinion. 😀

  12. Screw it! Do the one you feel you need to do more!
